Step 4

Preparing for the Assessments

Virtual Entry Assessments are taken online on any personal computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Up until April 1, 2019, the USPS online application system was not compatible with mobile devices. Adding the option to complete your assessment on a tablet or smartphonoe is a huge improvement to the process making it more convenient and user-friendly for candidates.

When it’s time for you to take your assessment, choose a time and location where you are free of noise and distractions.

Although there are no time limits for any of the four assessments, the USPS recommends you complete it in approximately 35-45 minutes.

You have four different paths to get hired into an entry-level job. Choose your path(s) below for detailed information on how to perform well on the assessment. Each segment includes a description of the assessement, sample questions, and tips and techiniques to help you present yourself as the ideal candidate for the job.

A few things to remember about USPS Virtual Entry Assessments…

  • Although you may be permitted to apply to as many entry-level jobs as you would like, you may only take one assessment at a time.
  • For example, you may apply for a Mail Carrier job in the morning and a Mail Processor job in the evening. You will have to complete your first assessment for Mail Carrier before you are able to take the Mail Processor assessment.
  • If you do not pass a particular assessment, you will not be eligible to take it again for a period of one year. During that one year period, you will not be permitted to apply to any other job vacancies in that category with that assessment.
  • If you do not complete a particular assessment within three days of receiving the Assessment Notification, you will receive a fail/ineligible rating. You will not be eligible to take it again for a period of one year. During that one year period, you will not be permitted to apply to any other job vacancies in that category with that assessment.
  • If you pass an assessment, you will not be eligible to take it again (in an effort to get a higher score) for a period of two years.
